About Course

This qualification is accredited by ITC and is suitable for anyone wishing to take their teaching outside. This qualification enables you to study at home in your own time and attend an experiential learning practical skills day with one of our expert tutors. This qualification is assessed through the completion of a portfolio within 6 months. By completing this course, you will be able to explain the benefits of outdoor learning and understand how to teach practically and safely outside. You will experience a variety of inspirational activities to help you to take your teaching outdoors. You will need to plan, deliver and evaluate one outdoor learning session to be able to complete your portfolio.

This course does not qualify you to set up and deliver forest school. Please see our suite of forest school qualifications.

1. Understand the benefits of facilitating learning beyond the classroom environment
Understand and explain the benefits of delivering learning beyond the classroom Know and summarise research supporting the benefits of learning beyond the classroom environment.

2. Understand the principles and concepts relating to managing groups and facilitating learning beyond the classroom environment
This module introduces roles and skills you need to run outdoor learning sessions.

3. Plan activity linked to any studies and defined outcomes through learning beyond the classroom environment
This module introduces planning for outdoor learning sessions, considering barriers, needs of pupils, outdoor space and the permissions you may need.

4. Understand risk benefit analysis when planning learning beyond the classroom environment
This module looks at managing the risks of your outdoor learning programmes.

5. Deliver activity linked to the curriculum and defined outcomes through learning beyond the classroom environment.
This module covers what you need to include as evidence of the delivery of your outdoor learning sessions and reflective practice.
